A pivotal featherweight tilt appears to be scheduled to headline UFC Fight Night 123 in December.
Longtime contender Cub Swanson said in an Instagram post Monday he will be facing rising 145-pound fighter Brian Ortega at the event. Farah Hannoun first reported the news last week, but at the time of her report, Swanson hadn’t yet been offered the bout, per ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.
UFC officials have yet to confirm the matchup.
Swanson (25-7) is currently riding a four-fight winning streak, which includes a recent decision win over Artem Lobov in April and a “Fight of the Year” win over Doo Ho Choi at UFC 206 late last year. His last four wins followed a two-fight skid, which consisted of submission losses to Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar.
Ortega (12-0, 1 NC) is undefeated as a professional mixed martial artist and is 4-0, 1 NC in the UFC. Known as “T-City,” Ortega’s last four victories have all ended by third-round stoppage — and in at least two, the 26-year-old was down on the scorecards going into the final round. Most recently, Ortega tapped out Renato Moicano, which followed a knockout win over Clay Guida.
UFC Fight Night 123 takes place at Save Mart Center in Fresno, California on Dec. 9. The night’s main card airs live on FS1.
